The Idea Behind PetReunite
In Nigeria (and most parts of the world), pet ownership is growing rapidly, but there’s still no easy system to report, search, or identify missing pets. People rely on word of mouth, posters, and social media posts that rarely reach the right audience.
PetReunite changes that.
The goal is very simple:
Create a central platform where pet owners can report lost pets, upload their details, and where anyone who finds a stray can easily check if that pet has been reported missing.
Over time, the platform will learn from patterns - pet types, locations, and user activities - to make smarter suggestions and improve chances of successful reunions.
The Tech Behind It
As a backend developer, I wanted to make the project scalable and clean from the start. The stack is built with:
Laravel (for the backend)
Vue + Blade (for admin panel and management)
MySQL (for data persistence)
Each pet profile includes key identifiers like color, breed, last seen location, and owner contact details. There’s also a moderation layer to ensure every listing is genuine and not spam.
Why It Matters
PetReunite is more than just a project — it’s a small way of using code to solve real-world problems.
If one family finds their lost pet because of this system, that’s already a win.
“Every line of code that brings a lost pet back home is worth it.”
